Blooming Wonder - 24x24"
Size 24” x 24” x 1.5”
Inspiration & Process
Botanical Art Series — Cherry Blossom Collection
Blooming Wonder was created in response to the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum’s Sakura Community Art Exhibit, an invitation to interpret the spirit of cherry blossoms and the tradition of hanami — the quiet act of gathering to witness flowers in bloom.
This painting reflects my ongoing exploration of transience, belonging, and the spaces where humanity and nature meet in reverence rather than control. Cherry blossoms have long symbolized the fleeting brilliance of life — delicate, luminous, and impossibly brief. In this work, a young child reaches upward at the threshold between water and sky, embodying the universal moment of first awe.
The layered sunset sky — coral, rose, and deep ultramarine — was built gradually through transparent washes, allowing color to breathe through one another like shifting light at dusk. The blossoms were composed as a suspended canopy, creating a gentle architectural frame overhead — a recurring element in my practice where nature becomes both shelter and sacred space.
Multi-metal gilded accents were applied to the child’s skin, allowing the figure to hold and reflect light differently throughout the day. This gilding process honors the Japanese aesthetic of luminous restraint while also aligning with my own studio practice of integrating metal leaf as a symbol of value, reverence, and embodied presence.
Blooming Wonder invites stillness. It asks the viewer to look up, to remember softness, and to reconnect with the quiet magic of witnessing something beautiful at the precise moment it appears.
Artwork Details
Artwork is an original mixed media, oil, acrylic and metal leaf painting created on a 1.5” deep gallery wood panel. The solid wood surface provides a smooth, stable foundation that enhances the layered color fields and luminous gilded accents.
The edges are finished in genuine gold leaf, creating a radiant halo effect around the piece and allowing it to feel complete and sculptural when displayed unframed.
The artwork is titled and signed on the back and will arrive professionally wired and ready to hang.
